Monica Gross
Ceramic artist
Born on the shores of Lake Maggiore in Ticino, Monica Gross has, since childhood, nurtured a deep appreciation for nature, art and beauty. This intimate connection with objects imbued with spirit and harmony is naturally reflected in her ceramic work.
Having trained in this art form for over ten years in the studio of the artist Virginia Muro, she has developed a practice in painting – primarily watercolour – alongside her ceramic work. Her artistic curiosity has also led her to explore working with rag paper and plant-based paper, disciplines in which she trained under the artist Viviane Fontaine. This openness to other artistic media enriches the artist’s work, which creates a dialogue between her ceramics and other materials: paper, stone, metal, etc.
Her creative world draws inspiration from ancient art and archetypal, timeless forms. Her art breathes new life into mythology and symbols that resonate with the unconscious and the mystical. Her research has notably led her to produce reproductions of ancient works for the Musée Bible et Orient.
In Monica Gross’s work, this ancient and sacred art blends with the essential and organic forms of great artists such as Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso and Henry Moore.
Through her sculptures and vases, Monica Gross invites the viewer to a sensory encounter with the earth, transformed into living forms that embody poetry and memory, where material, balance and emotion engage in dialogue.
